Opening Reception: Sunday, September 26, 3-5:30 pm. Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts (MHCA) and the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association (MAPAPA) will host the 9th annual Paint Annapolis event, September 23-26, 2010 on the streets of historic Annapolis and at Maryland Hall.

CITY OF ANNAPOLIS MAPAPA Richard Caruso Art Things Maryland Federation of Art Cynthia Alderdice Barbara Cooper Elisabeth Ridout Orlando Ridout Thirty of the nation’s finest plein air landscape painters have been selected to paint throughout Annapolis for three days and will submit two pieces of two-dimensional art for the Paint Annapolis 2010 competition and exhibition at Maryland Hall. The prizes will be announced at a public reception on Sunday, September 26 at Maryland Hall; the reception will take place from 3-5:30 pm with prizes awarded at 4 pm. All the works of art will be on display and for sale at the Maryland Hall exhibition from September 26 through October 24.
The Paint Annapolis 2010 juror is Rosalie Nadeau of Orleans, Cape Cod. A master plein air painter, Nadeau balances powerful color with classical form. Her vibrant paintings in oil and in pastel illustrate feature articles in magazines and books: Pastel Journal, Painting the Impressionist Landscape, Pastel Artists Bible, Pastel School, Painting Shapes and Edges. Represented in CCMA’s permanent collection, and in corporate and private collections nationwide, she earned prestigious signature memberships in several Pastel Societies. She is an original in “21 in Truro” and a founding member of Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod and Cape Cod Plein Air Painters. Her work can be seen in Tree’s Place Gallery in Orleans, Left Bank Gallery in Wellfleet on Cape Cod, and Stony Creek Gallery in Stony Creek, CT. Nadeau will present a free public lecture about her work and Paint Annapolis on Sunday, September 26 at 2 pm at Maryland Hall, just prior to the exhibition reception.

Other plein air artists are invited to participate in Dueling Brushes, a quick draw event where artists paint within a short time frame. Dueling Brushes will take place on Saturday, September 25 from 9 am to noon. Judging of these works will begin at noon at Newman Street Park at the corner of Compromise and Newman Streets. Artists wanting to participate in Dueling Brushes must register at www.paintannapolis.com. Plein air painters of all skill levels are invited to set up their equipment and paint alongside the official competing artists throughout the city from Thursday, September 23 though Saturday, September 25 from “first light.” Some painters will even be painting by moon light. A Paint Annapolis 2010 booth will be located at Annapolis’ Market Square with maps of the official areas of the city where artists will be working. The public is invited to stroll the city and observe the creative process during this event which encourages and supports the development of representational outdoor artists.
